Schrättele

The Schrättele is a witch figure. One half of the wooden mask shows a friendly grinning face, the other half looks angry. A large red headscarf that reaches to the shoulder is attached to the mask. The Schrättele wears an ocher jacket, a green skirt with a red petticoat and a black cape, red and white striped wool socks and straw shoes. Schrättele never leaves the house without his big broomstick.

History of the Schrättele
The Schrättele got its name from the expression: "Mi hot's Schrättele prints". This phrase can still be heard today and means something like: "I had a nightmare."
