Venlo

On "Vastenavond", Shrove Tuesday, the "Boerenbruiloft" (peasant wedding) has been celebrated in Venlo since 1912. For a day a couple will be married. The whole town takes part and celebrates this special wedding. The whole celebration takes place in historical black clothing. The men wear a historical black suit, frock coat or tailcoat with a top hat or black hat. The women wear historical long black dresses, over them black coats with fine fox or other fur collars and appropriate hats. Even the small children wear clothes like they did a hundred years ago. The wedding couple is driven through the city center in a carriage, accompanied by several wedding chapels.
Over the foolish days, Venlo has renamed itself Jocusriëd.
