Location and Surroundings

The Schesaplana is the highest mountain in the Rätikon.
There doesn`t seem to be a consensus about the height, since it`s actually 2965 m above sea level. A is only 2964m according to Swiss measurements.
The border between Switzerland (Graubünden) and Austria (Vorarlberg) runs across it.
At the northern end of the Schesaplana you can see the Brandner Glacier, while at the eastern foot is one of the largest mountain lakes in the Alps, the Lünersee.

On August 24, 1610, Christa Barball, Claus Manall and David Pappus von Tratzberg climbed the Schesaplana for the first time.
In the summer of 1730, the Prättigau pastor Nikolin Sererhard and two of his companions set off, crossing Seewis to Brand.
It is possible to climb the Schesaplana from many sides. The top can be reached on foot from the Mannheimer Hütte via the Brandner Gletscher and from the Schesaplanahaus or from Brand via the Douglashütte am Lünersee and Totalphütte. However, it is advisable to proceed very firmly on this path.
For experienced and courageous mountaineers there is also the ascent via the Leibersteig and Mannheimer Hütte
