Northern Alps

The Northern Alps are mostly covered by mixed spruce forests. Karst phenomena develop in the limestone, whereas in watertight dolomite there are brittle, disrupted rock formations and heaps of fine gravel.

At the foundation of the limestone mountains there are deposits of salt and gypsum, as well as source horizons
over slates. The Northern Alps are divided into the areas Northern Limestone Alps, Slate Alps, Greywacke Zone
Divided into flysch zone and molasse zone, with the foothills of the Alps and the central plateau (Switzerland) in the north
connect.
