Schafbergbahn

The Schaffbergbahn runs from St. Wolfgang through the Schafbergalpe to the mountain station at an altitude of 1730m.
It is a meter-gauge rack railway in Austria, which covers distances of 5.85 km and overcomes a height difference of 1188 m. A ride on the Schafbergbahn takes an average of 40 minutes, but it only operates from May to October. This device was created in 1892 and was opened just ten years later. This achievement finally put an end to the profession of chair porter in St. Wolfgang.

Hotel Schafbergspitze

This hotel can rightly call itself the first mountain hotel in Austria.
Wolfgang Grömmer built the Hotel Schafbergspitze in 1862 on the summit of the Schafberg. The hotel offers, among other things, double rooms with shower, toilet and south-facing balcony.


Ham Radio Converter

As a small attraction, an amateur radio converter was installed on the top of the Schafberg.
This is operated by the Funkenden Eisenbahnern Österreichs (FIRAC).
The transmission frequency is 439,200 MHz and the call sign is OE2XBB.


Outlook
The Schafberg offers a unique view of the lakes of the Salzkammergut. You can also admire the various lakes, such as Mondsee, Attersee, Traunsee, Fuschlsee and Wolfgangsee.
