The Hochkar is the highest peak in the approximately 20 km long mountain range of the Göstling Alps. That mountain range
runs from the west to the Dürrenstein (1,878 m) and is a section of the mountain group of the Ybbstal Alps.
In the southern region, the mountain drops sharply towards the Salztal. In contrast, the northern part
milder and drains towards the Ybbs. In winter, the Hochkar is used as a ski sports center, while the Alm is managed in summer.
In addition, there are many tourist attractions on the Hochkar in summer, such as the well-known
"Hochkar Cave", hiking trails or the "Holztriftanlage im Mendlingtal" at the foot of the Hochkar.
At 1,491 m is the Hochkarschutzhaus, which with around 20 km of slopes and 9 lifts is the most important
Lower Austria`s winter sports area. In the next few years there will be further investments for
the modernization of the ski area.
The toll road "Hochkaralpenstraße" leads from Lassing to the Hochkar.
