Long and surroundings:
In the middle between Salzburg and Munich at the foot of the Kampenwand and about five kilometers south of Lake Chiemsee is the climatic health resort of Aschau im Chiemgau. It has two districts, Sachrang and Aschau, and is part of the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim.

Due to an administrative reform in Bavaria in 1818, Hohen- and Niederaschau became independent political communities. However, in 1966 it was created from these two communities then Aschau im Chiemgau. Twelve years later, Umrathhausen and Sachrang were also incorporated. A landmark and impressive building adorns the community. Hohenaschau Castle was built by Konrad and Arnold von Hirnsberg in the last third of the 12th century. Through further expansions, the castle was at the end administrative seat and although it was never a principality, it possessed a number of sovereign rights, including the right of high and blood jurisdiction. In the following years there were further conversions and extensions to the building to adapt it to the style of the time. So one added in the Renaissance and later, in the high baroque period, the palace chapel and the Priental Museum, which is well-known today, were added. Ultimately, however, after Theodor von Cramer-Klett, it became the property of the Federal Republic of Germany and is now managed by the Federal Finance Administration used as a vacation home. You can see that the 700-year history of the Hohenschau rulership has shaped the community and made it aware of its traditions.

There is much more to see than Hohenschau Castle on the rocky hill, also the Romanesque valley of the Prien, the two baroque towers of the parish church and especially the three-pointed Kampenwand are worth a visit.
