Alpine Huts

Alpine huts

Alpine huts are the living quarters and stables that are occupied by herdsmen or dairymaids during the summer months while they take care of the cattle grazing on the mountain pastures.

In the last 100 years, since the intensive tourist development of the mountains, the function of an alpine hut has fundamentally changed: a number of alpine huts that are on hiking trails have been converted into shelters or, in winter sports areas, into ski huts and look after hikers, skiers and tourists. Many alpine huts offer gastronomic offers. Some of the alpine huts are also offered as holiday homes. The offer ranges from traditional alpine huts with an outhouse and no electricity to comfortably furnished huts with comfortable beds, electricity, running water and access to the house.
