Exotic Shorthair Cat

The exotic shorthair cat is a breed of domestic cat that was first bred by American cat lovers.

The breed is based on the mating of Persian cats and the American Shorthair breed. The result is a breed of cat that has the childlike looks, build and peaceful character of the Persian cat and the easy-care coat of the American Shorthair cat.

The breed standard has been recognized in the United States since 1966. With the reorganization of the FIFe standards in 1986, the Persian and Exotic Shorthair cats were combined into one class, the breeds of which were classified according to coat texture, coat length and colour. After initial crossing attempts with different breeds, only breeds of Persian cats are now crossed.

Despite being called a short-haired cat, the fur is rather semi-long and plush and not lying flat against the body. As with the Persian cats, the color variations are very varied and are constantly being added to.

The most well-known representative of this breed is the comic tomcat Garfield in the color red mackerel.
