Molasses

Molasses is a very soft, fine-grained sandstone which hardens in the air. It can be found in the foothills of the Alps, hence the French-Swiss word Molasse derived from very soft.

Molasses are ablation material which is created when a mountain is raised and is then transported away by rivers. Arriving in a basin, it begins to solidify due to the overlying pressure.
