Fruit slate

Fruit slate is clay rock which owes its mottled appearance to so-called contact metamorphites. These metamorphites form at low pressure and high temperatures, which is due to contact with magma. Therefore, the fruit slate is one of the low metamorphic rocks.

The metamorphites result in a strip-like formation of new minerals in the dark grey-green or grey-black bedrock.
