Cache
The temporary memory or cache is a type of storage that allows access to frequently requested
data accelerated. Data that has already been read is stored in this memory.
When accessing a file again, it is first checked whether it is in the cache
located. If this is the case, the cache (French = hiding place) can store the data
read as if data blocks have to be read in again. The access time of this
fast buffer is therefore very low. The following cache types are known:
- Caches that store data from memory near the CPU
buffer (in the first or second level cache) - Caches, which store data from the hard disk in memory
(e.g. Smartdrive or smartdrv.exe) - Caches, or "caching" data from the slow CD-ROM drive to the hard drive.
- The hard disk cache, which buffers write and read access on the hardware side.
