Patch

A patch is intended to fix errors (bugs) contained in software. This program is made available for free download on the websites of software manufacturers.

Since a patch is not very extensive and only partially in the faulty program code intervene, this does not replace updates. Patches are also used to fix security gaps, for example close or provide better functionality.
