JPEG

JPEG is the standard for compressing digital images. This was developed in the mid-1980s by the "Joint Photographic Experts Group" of the same name.
JPEG works with data reduction and can therefore compress the data particularly effectively. This process simply ignores small variations in color nuances.
So the compression is achieved by storing colors that look very similar as the same hue, resulting in very little loss of quality.
Furthermore, the user can choose the compression levels himself.
JPEG as a non-lossless compression, web-compatible file format, which is used on the "World Wide Web" for photo storage. Unfortunately, there are not many that are web-enabled. Formats such as "Bitmap"(.bmp) or "Tagged Image File Format" (.tif) cannot be displayed by the web browser.
