CPU

CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the microprocessor and the central processing unit of the computer. It is on the motherboard in a CPU socket or mounted directly on the circuit board. Your job is to monitor the computer and to control the flow of data between the programs in the system. The CPU essentially consists of the units register, arithmetic unit (also ALU = Arithmetic Logic Unit), the instruction decoder and the address unit.

The address unit reads data and commands from the memory and can vice versa return them to it to write. Commands are processed by the command decoder, which controls the other elements accordingly. The data is stored in the registers for direct processing. This access to the data in the internal registers is often much faster than memory.
