Bus

A bus is a connection unit to which different components of a computer are connected. A distinction is made here between the address bus, data bus and control bus. The bus is used for communication between the microprocessor, main memory, interfaces and expansion cards and the system, where can be exchanged via this data and control signals. In addition, a distinction is made between the internal and external bus. The bus width is decisive for the speed of data transport (depending on 8, 16, 32 and 64 bit).

The internal bus is responsible for communication between the individual devices on the motherboard and the CPU. The external bus is used to connect peripheral devices.
