Backbone

For larger networks with several identical or different network structures, you may have to create a separate infrastructure for exchanging information between the networks and systems. The backbone network forms such an infrastructure. Backbone (English = backbone) bears the main load of the data in one or more networks and has a higher transmission capacity than the other networks connected to it. It is a high-speed data traffic line and is used to connect local heterogeneous networks (LAN), as well as regional networks (MAN) and wide area networks (WAN). These systems occur very frequently and ring-shaped. The larger the network and the higher the requirements, the less likely wild topologies become. The performance of a backbone is determined in particular by the access computers and their protocol implementation co-determined.
