AVI

AVI (audio video interleave) is an audio and video format developed by Microsoft. AVI is based on the RIFF specifications for Windows multimedia applications. The format was created by Microsoft as a unified solution for playing short video clips. If you compare the other animation formats that were common at the time with AVI, the so-called Keyframe technique used. Only every 12th to 17th picture is saved as a full picture. For frames in between, only the differences to the previous image are given. AVI soon became firmly associated with Windows, with the appropriate drivers for end users were made available free of charge.
