A prominent person who is considered sexually attractive in public perception receives the status of a sex symbol. This attribute is assigned to both women and men. The media play an important role in this. The advertising and fashion industry is also an important factor.

When asked about the greatest sex symbol of all time, the names of female stars such as Marilyn Monroe or Brigitte Bardot are usually mentioned first.
In the meantime, however, more and more men are being divided into such categories (David Beckham, Brad Pitt, etc.).
