Taunus

The Taunus is a southeastern part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains. It lies between the Rhine and Main to the west and south, the Lahn to the north and the Wetterau to the east.
It describes a plateau about 75 km long and 35 km wide.

In the center of the Taunus lies the nature park Hochtaunus, one of three nature parks. In the northwest is the Nassau Nature Park, the Rhein-Taunus Nature Park is located in the west.

There are several important mineral and healing springs in the Taunus, some of which were used as far back as Roman times. For example, the seltzer water, which is obtained from several mineral springs in Bad Vilbel, is world-famous.
