Spessart

Spessart

The Spessart is in the western part of Germany. It is surrounded by the river Main between Gemünden and the mouth of the Kinzig near Hanau and the tributaries of the Main, the Kinzig and the Sinn.

The densely wooded low mountain range has rounded crests that rarely rise above the total height.
Mighty oak and beech forests determine the image of the Spessart.

From the south, the main ridge extends 75 km from Miltenberg to the region of Schluechtern in the north.
Its extension is 2,440 km², of which 1,710 km² are in Bavaria and 730 km² in Hesse.

The highest peak of the Spessart is the 586 m high Geiersberg.
