Ocicat cats

The Ocicat is one of the younger breeds of cats. It "came into being" in the USA in the 1960s and was actually a product of chance. An American Siamese breeder wanted the next generation of her cat to have an agouti-tabby pattern, so she crossed an Abyssinian with a Siamese. In the second generation, the first Ocicats appeared. However, they were not recognized in the USA until the 1980s, but immediately enjoyed great popularity.

Its appearance is somewhat reminiscent of a wild ocelot, which is how the Ocicat got its name. But she has nothing in common with this wildcat. She is medium to tall in stature with a muscular build. Due to the strong muscles and a good bone structure, she appears very athletic, which is further supported by her powerful legs. Their head has an elongated wedge shape with a strong chin, the muzzle is wide. The medium-sized ears are attached to the head. The Ocicat has large, almond-shaped eyes that are very expressive. The ocicat's lustrous coat is sleek and close-fitting, streaked with patches (also called bull's-eye) almost the size of a fingerprint.

The Ocicat comes in a variety of colors. A basic distinction is made between the Ocicat in color, basic color, pattern color and nose mirror.

1. If the cat is black, its base color is bronze, its markings are black and its nose is red with a black border.
2. If the cat is blue, its basic color is light beige, its markings are blue and its nose is also blue.
3. If the cat is chocolate, its basic color is ivory, its markings are chocolate brown and its nose is pink with a brown border.
4. If the cat is chinnamon, its basic color is ivory, its markings are cinnamon and its nose is pink.
5. If the cat is fawn, its basic color is light ivory, its markings are fawn and its nose is pink.
6. If the cat is lavender, its basic color is light pink, its pattern color is blue-pink and its nose is blue.

The Ocicat is very sociable, curious and above all intelligent. Although she is very attached to her owners and enjoys their presence, she is not pushy and needs their freedom. So the Ocicat is not recommended as a purely house cat, since it needs at least one garden in which it can let off steam and run. Ocicats are very friendly and peaceful, which makes them great family cats too. Furthermore, she not only gets along with other cats, regardless of their breed, but also with dogs. If you want, you can also take her for a walk outside on a leash.
