Silicon

Silicon is what is known as a semimetal. It therefore has the properties of metals and non-metals. Pure silicon has a grey-black colour.

The density of silicon is higher in the liquid than in the solid state. It is an elemental semiconductor. Silicon is used, among other things, as an alloy.
