DVD-R

DVD-R denotes a DVD medium that can be written to once. The DVD-R comes in different formats.

• 12cm disc single side with a data capacity of 3.9 GB
• 12cm Disc Double Side with a data capacity of 7.8 GB
• 8cm disc single side with a data capacity of 1.2 GB
• 8cm disc double side with a data capacity of 2.3 GB

The DVD-R works the same as the CD-R. It has a wafer-thin dye coating (dye) which forms the so-called pits when the laser heats it up. The scanning laser of a DVD drive can then read this information and process it further.
