Career
Gene Sarazen managed to hit a ball in the 1935 Masters that the whole world heard. "The shot heard `round the world" It all happened on the 15th hole and a par 5, in the final round. There Gene Sarazen pocketed the ball from 200 meters away with his second shot and a 4 wood.
This remarkable shot, also known as the albatross, allowed him to get into the playoff against Craig Woods and ultimately helped him win.
In 1930 Gene Sarazen designed and developed the sand iron as a precursor to the modern sand wedge.
When he retired, until shortly before his death in 1999, he would play the Masters honor tee with two other great golf legends, Byron Nelson and Sam Snead at Augusta National Golf Club.
Gene Sarazen won a total of 39 tournaments on the PGA Tour.
