3. Crusade

3rd Crusade 1189 – 1192

In 1187 Jerusalem was conquered again - this time by Sultan Saladin. This led to the Roman-German Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa, King Philip Augustus of France and King Richard I, the Lionheart of England uniting in Europe and moving east with a large army.
With a weakened force, the (former) king of Jerusalem attacked Guido of Lausihnon Akko. In the same year the fortress capitulated and the French king returned home.
Richard the Lionheart, on the other hand, continued the fight against Saladin. Henry I became the new king of Jerusalem. After his death, he was succeeded by Amalric II, who also ruled over Cyprus.
