Julian Alps

As part of the Southern Limestone Alps, the Julian Alps are a mountain range which is mostly located on the Upper and Inner Carniola, the Slovenian area and divided into the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

The name can be traced back to Gaius Julius Caesar, who set up a province with the capital Cividale in the area of ??Friuli and West Carniola. Originally, the Julian Alps included more areas to the south. They included, among other things, areas that are currently in Slovenia but, unlike at that time, are now independent regions.

This area is still not well known and is therefore still an insider tip in mountaineering circles. It is not uncommon to find more ibexes than hikers in some areas. Nevertheless, everyone really gets their money`s worth here, whether hikers, nature fans or climbers. From suddenly towering limestone walls and dry karst plateaus to mountain streams, the Julian Alps offer varied and exciting contrasts.
There are opportunities to go on day hikes, to run longer treks or to do day-long climbing tours.
