General:
The Kampenwand is a mountain peak in the Chiemgau Alps.
It is 1669 m high and lies between the communities of Schleching and Aschau. In every season, the mountain peak is used for various sporting activities. In summer, hang-gliders and paragliders as well as hikers, climbers and mountain bikers share the diverse area. In winter, on the other hand, skiers enjoy the many snow-covered runs.
A twelve meter high cross adorns the east summit of the Kampenwand. This was erected in 1951 to commemorate the fallen and victims of the world wars. In this way, the wooden cross destroyed by lightning in 1923 was also replaced.
The sporadic lighting of the summit has also been modernized and is now possible thanks to a solar system installed in 2003.
