Brosnan, Pierce

PERSONAL DATA:

NAME: Pierce Brosnan
DATE OF BIRTH: May 16, 1953
PLACE OF BIRTH: Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland

Career:

In 1953 Pierce Brosnan was born in Navan, County Meath.
At the age of 11 he moved to London with his family. There he decided, after the impressive film "Goldfinger", for a career as an actor.
For two years he was on the road on many small stages until Brosnan got the chance in 1979 and the role of an Irish terrorist who poses as a homosexual in the crime thriller "Rififi on Good Friday".
In 1982 he got into the TV series "Remington Steel" as a leading actor and became known in the USA as well as internationally.
Pierce Brosnan was supposed to play the role of British secret agent 007 much earlier, but he didn`t get out of his contract for "Remington Steel". So he had to wait 9 years until James Bond was approved for a new adventure and of course until Roger Moore was no longer interested in the role.
In the meantime he made films like the spy thriller "The Fourth Protocol".
There he again played a terrorist in 1984 who was stopped in time by Sir Michael Caine shortly before the end.
Many more films followed, some of the more successful ones including 1992 and 1993`s The Lawnmower Man and co-starring Robin Williams in the comedy Mrs. Doubtfire. Almost nine years later, in 1994, Pierce Brosnan finally landed the role of secret agent James Bond.
Its first part "Goldeneye" brought in a total of 350 million dollars worldwide and is thus the most successful of this series up to that point. The other parts follow, such as 1997`s "Tomorrow Never Dies", 1999`s "The World Is Not Enough" and 2002`s "Die Another Day".
Before his last Bond film, Pierce Brosnan surprised with the film "The Tailor of Panama". He wanted to change his image but failed to win over audiences with the role of the slick and ruthless British spy.
Much funnier and more interesting, however, he shone alongside Juliane Moor in the comedy "Laws of Attraction" or in the role of the gentleman crook in "The Thomas Crown Affair".
In 2006 he came to the cinemas with a new film "Murder and Margaritas". In the role of a killer with a crisis of meaning, Brosnan is clearly different from the one we knew. He was able to successfully change his image with the help of the film.
In his personal life, however, he wasn`t so lucky. His wife Cassandra Harris died of cancer in 1991.
Since her death, Pierce Brosnan has been an active advocate for cancer prevention and also serves as an ambassador for Women`s Health Issues for the Permanent Charities Committee of the Entertainment Industries.
Today, the smart Irishman is in safe hands again and in addition to his two adopted children and his son from his first marriage, he has two more.
