Best adapted screenplay

(Best Writing, Original Screenplay)

The term adapted screenplay refers to the screenplay based on a literary template (adapted screenplay). The script of this screenplay is based on a previously published publication (a novel, a play, or a screenplay that has already been made into a film). The original screenplay category, which is written without a template, is in contrast to the adapted screenplay.

The Oscar Best Adapted Screenplay has been awarded since 1929, but initially irregularly.
