directing
Directing (French: régie = responsible line, Latin: regere to rule) is the overall artistic direction of a film, a radio spot or a theater production such as an opera.
The director`s work involves the actors` control over what has been rehearsed and the presentation of a work. Stage directions are the author`s available text data or screenplay, and not the director`s orders. Directing means responsible, independent leadership, management and administration. In the film industry, in contrast to theatre, directing has more weight in the technical area. In the theater business, the leadership of the actors is generally understood, whereby the directors are not confronted with technical or organizational matters. Nowadays, directing is more concerned with new interpretations of theatrical texts and the discovery of new ways of expressing theatrical art than with fidelity to the work.
