Classicism
Classicism is the art epoch that follows the Rococo between 1780 and 1830. Characteristic of Classicism is the recourse to antiquity, i.e. the smoothness of the forms, the precision of the outline drawings and the balance of the compositions, in which the figures are arranged parallel and no longer diagonally to the plane of the picture. Illusionism is omitted. The coloring is characterized by clarity and coolness.
Motifs are mainly scenes from Greek and Roman stories, ancient mythological subjects and religious.
