Burmilla cat

The Burmilla cat breed was created accidentally in 1981 in Great Britain by mating a lilac colored Burmese cat with a chinchilla Persian. The name Burmilla is made up of parts of the two breeds (Burma and Chinchilla). The remarkable thing about the first litter was the interplay of the short-haired fur of the mother cat with the beautiful, silver color of the father. This peculiarity attracted the attention of various breeders. The Burmilla was recognized as a separate breed in Great Britain as early as 1983, and the first Burmilla Cat Club was founded in 1984. The FIFe (Fédération Internationale Féline) followed the guidelines from England in 1996 and also recognized the Burmilla as an independent cat breed.
However, actual breeding of the Burmilla in Europe was initiated by a breeder from Denmark after receiving information about this remarkable breed in 1984. The breeder set the breed standard for the Burmilla and helped her to independence in 1996 by campaigning vehemently for FIFe recognition of the Burmilla.

Appearance

The pedigree cat Burmilla is about the size of a domestic cat. Despite her muscular physique and her stocky legs, which are slightly higher at the back than the front legs, she appears elegant, casual and slim.

With its silver, slightly shaded, silky soft fur, the Burmilla is a very elegant and extremely beautiful pedigree cat. The large, wide-set eyes impress with their color intensity and intense expression. They look friendly and attentive.

The muzzle is wide and well developed and the ears are slightly tilted forward. The framing of the eyes, which can be more or less intense, is expressive. The abundant undercoat of the coat gives it a bit more fullness.

Character

The pedigree cat Burmilla is very balanced and related to people. She is very affectionate, cuddly and playful. She requires human attention and has various sounds that she uses to "talk" to her owner. The cat is peace-loving and gets along well with other pets. She especially loves to be petted and thanks her with a pleasant, deep purr.

Breed Standards and Breeding

The body of the Burmilla is medium-sized, quite strong, yet slim and supple. A tomcat weighs between 3.5kg and 6.5kg and a cat weighs between 2.5kg and 4.5kg. The round, somewhat broad head has a short nose with a clearly visible stop. Jaws and chin are strong and well developed. The ears are set wide apart and are relatively large. They are somewhat wider at the base and end in rounded ear tips. The large, slightly slanted eyes are set wide apart and are bright green in color in the Burmilla. Their alert and open gaze indicates curiosity and interest in their environment.
The pedigree cat stands on stocky and strong legs, with the hind legs being slightly longer than the front legs. The paws with the black pads are quite delicate and have an oval shape. The tail is a little thicker at the base, but gets a little thinner towards the gently rounded tip.

The Burmilla has a wonderfully soft, silky and also dense coat that is slightly longer than that of the Burmese cat. The M-mark is clearly visible on the forehead. Delicate stripes can be seen in the fur on the face, legs and tail.

Animals with an extremely heavy or particularly delicate physique are regarded as faulty.Even if the fur is too long or even bristly, if the color and pattern of the fur deviates from the specifications, if the color of the eyes does not meet the standard, the chin is too weak or the legs are too high, an "Error ’ or talked about something special.

colors

The fur of the Burmilla always has a silver-white basic color. Only the ends of the hair are pigmented in the respective color. The fur markings and the fur colors of the Burmilla are divided into Category I (non orange) and Category II (orange).

In Category I, the Burmilla can be black, blue, lilac, beige, lavender, chocolate, cinnamon and fawn.
In category II there is the Burmilla in the colors red, cream and tortoiseshell.

All colors are available shaded or shell. Shaded means that 1/3 of the hair tip has been pigmented in the appropriate color. With shell, only 1/8 of each hair tip is pigmented in the respective color.
