Origin

Although the Bombay cat was officially disallowed as a breed in 1958, it is a hybrid breed. The Bombay cat was bred by the breeder Nikki Horner from Louisville in Kentucky. Her aim was to breed a cat with the appearance of a small black Panther and the pleasant characteristics of a Burmese cat. In addition, the cat should have the robustness of an American Shorthair. 10 years after the first attempts, Horner had achieved her goal and presented the cat to the Cat Fanciers Association.

Appearance

The main feature of the Bombay cat is the all-black coloring desired by breeders. This fact has also earned the Bombay cat the nickname Mini Panther. The black coloring runs through to the roots of the hair. She usually has golden to copper-colored bright shining eyes. The cat`s ears are wide apart. The Bombay cat has a rather narrow body and is usually smaller than the usual house cat, despite this fact the overall physique appears athletic. This becomes particularly visible when the cat walks, then the resemblance to a predator can no longer be dismissed out of hand. The Bombay cat is divided into 3 breeding variants, the original or traditional form, the modern form and the European breeding type.

Character Traits

Bombay cats are patient, affectionate and affectionate cats, making them ideal for being kept indoors. Living with children is also not a problem. They are very quiet and require a lot of attention. Bombay cats shouldn`t be left alone for long periods of time. She is a very confident and sensitive cat.
