Description Genetics
The characteristic forward and downward folded ears of the Scottish Fold cat
are inherited. Although the kittens are born with normal ears, they grow
these do not rise after four weeks, but bend forward.
This gives the cat a particularly adorable facial expression, as does the
round head and round big eyes of the Scottish Fold Longhair cat.
Her body is stocky and she has stocky legs and a thick cock.
Folded ears are inherited as an incomplete dominant (symbol Fd).
The cat is normally heterozygous (Fdfd). A homozygous cat (FdFd) can have a defect
in the development of the epiphysis (an endocrine gland that causes skeletal changes to
result). Heterozygous Scottish Fold cats do not have these problems
which is why only heterozygous Scottish Fold cats may be bred.
history
In 1961 the story of the Fold cat began when Coupar Angus in Scotland
a white cat was born on a farm with folded ears.
Her parents were average cats whose ears were the result of a
spontaneous mutation were. The Scottish Fold cats are descended from this cat.
The Scottish Fold cat owes the continued existence of this breed to its breeders from the
USA, because they took genetics into account when breeding.
The folds are now mostly popular in the US, but they are also popular in Europe,
Bred in Russia and Australia.
