Email - enamel
Enamel is a mass of inorganic compounds. This composition consists mostly of oxides and silicates which are produced by fusing both substances. The mass mostly solidifies into a glass-like state.
Enamel is usually applied to metal and fired there. The resulting glass flux coated metal is stable, very robust and oxidation-free. However, the metal processed in this way is very heavy and is therefore only suitable for smaller objects.
The thermal conductivity of enamel is low. Defective enamelling can leach heavy metals.
