US Masters
General |
The Augusta National Golf Club has been the organizer of the tournament taking place there in Augusta (Georgia), USA since 1934. In contrast to the other major tournaments, the Masters - an official event of the PGA TOUR and PGA European Tour - an invitational tournament. However, there is a catalog of formal invitation criteria that ensure that the world`s best players can start. The golf tournament is held over four rounds (Thursday to Sunday), on the Wednesday before the par 3 contest has been held on the short course since 1960. |
The Green Jacket |
Since 1949, the winner has been presented with the "Green Jacket" and a lifetime right to compete. An old tradition is that the winner of the previous year helps the current winner into the jacket at the award ceremony. The possibility that last year`s winner could also be the current winner was initially overlooked, so that When Jack Nicklaus defended his title again in 1966, he put on the jacket himself at the suggestion of Bobby Jones. the club chairman then took on the assisting role in repeat wins by Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods. During the decisive phase of the tournament, Green Jackets of a suitable size will be provided by the members for all possible winners so that the award ceremony can take place quickly. Afterwards will the winner measures and receives a tailor-made jacket, which he can take home for a year. It is then kept in the clubhouse and is available to him at any time when he visits. |
