Career

Peter William Thomson has won The Open Championship five times.
In the 20th century he became the only golfer to win the Open Championship three times in
episode (1954 to 1956). In 1958 and 1965 he recorded the other two victories.
His global titles include ten different national
championships. He alone won the New Zealand nine times and the
Australian Championships.
In the USA, Peter Thomson only won one event on the PGA Tour.
His best placement was fourth in the majors held there
at the 1956 US Open and fifth place at the 1957 Masters. At the PGA
Championship he never took part.
In North America, Thomson played as a senior and won the 1985 season at the
Champions Tour (then Senior PGA Tour) nine times, which has never happened before and
won the money ranking by a superior margin.
In 1988 Peter Thomson achieved his last win at the British PGA Senior Tournament, where
he was inducted into the Worlds Golf Hall of Fame that same year.
He is also an honorary member of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.
From 1962 to 1994 Peter Thomson was President of the Australian PGA and led
the international team at the Presidents Cup in 1996, 1998 and 2000 as (non-playing) captain.
