Career

Bobby Jones, the American golfer is one of the greats in the world of golf. His successes speak for themselves despite the fact that he never switched to professional activities.

He reached the peak of his career as a golfer between 1923 and 1930.
During that span, he was second in five of eight US Amateur Championships and the other three. In summary, during this period he won 62% of all national championships he competed in.

He won the Open Championship three times, once at the British Amateur Championship and four times at the US Open.

In 1930, Bobby Jones made golf history by winning all four tournaments, the British Open, British Amateurs, U.S. Amateurs and U.S. Open won and then the "Grand Slam" title was awarded.

Shortly thereafter, Bobby decided to retire from active competition and devote himself to his family. He surprised the whole golfing world with his early departure at the age of 28.

Golf was in Bobby Jones` blood from the start. Above all, he impressed with his excellent short game like no other at that time.
Even as a child he practiced putting and chipping in his parents` garden and his iron discipline and the relatively early start of training should pay off later.
He only used his "Calamity Jane" putter in later golf, which brought him an exceptional number of victories and put the golf ball almost every time.

After his career as a professional golfer, he began working as a lawyer, but remained true to his favorite sport and wrote golf books or taught as a golf instructor.

In addition, in 1933, together with Alister MacKenzie, he built a golf course, the Augusta National Course, and a little later founded the Masters there.

Bobby Jones was among the first golfers to be inducted into golf`s hall of fame, the World Golf Hall of Fame.
