Longshoreman Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) isn`t exactly a good example for a father. When his children come to visit him, everything runs as usual until a thunderstorm begins. There is nothing unusual about it at first, until the lightning strikes not just once or twice in the same place, but several times. There is also a crack that digs into the road shortly after the earthquake. This is anything but normal. Just beneath the surface is something that shouldn`t be there, an alien force that has infiltrated the humans. The invasion of the earth begins with the aim of destroying the human race! The military tries its best, but is hopelessly inferior to such powers. Destruction machines are popping up everywhere, destroying entire cities with unimaginable brutality. The war is progressing and Ray must now fight for survival and above all protect his children.
