Japanese Spitz
Country of origin: Japan
Breed Names: Japanese Spitz
Height at the withers:
- 30-38cm
- 5-9kg
The Japanese Spitz is probably a descendant of the white Spitz, which was very common throughout Europe in earlier times and was also very popular with the nobility. It was probably brought to Japan by travelers, as was the case with America and the American Eskimo Dogs now based there. It is also confirmed that the Japanese Spitz is visually almost indistinguishable from the German Mittelspitz. However, while in Europe the lace was bred for a long time for size, in Japan the original form was retained throughout. In 1913 the Japanese Spitz was recognized as a separate breed in Japan. Around 1950 it was very common in Japan, but meanwhile it loses more and more importance there, whereas it is becoming increasingly popular in Europe and North America.
DescriptionThis small Spitz-type dog is 30 to 38 cm tall, its fur is white, long, dense, straight and sticking out, its small triangular erect ears are also typically spitz-like.
