The St. Bernard is a very large dog, but with the right training it is very peaceful by nature. He gets along well with children and makes an ideal guard dog. Because of its size, it is absolutely unsuitable for city apartments. He loves long walks. There should be a large garden to keep him. The coat care is very different depending on the type (stick hair or long hair). The longhair should be brushed regularly.
