Origin and History

This dog breed originated from numerous crossings, e.g. Beagle with Harriers, Petit bleu de Gascogne with Beagle and Briquet or Poitevin with Bleu de Gascogne and Porcelaine. All specimens of this cross were relatively small, had English and French Hound blood and were good rabbit hunters. The breed was first recognized in France in 1957.

However, the standard that was drawn up required a clean separation between the Beagle and Anglo-Français dog breeds. Therefore, the breed was standardized so that it was also recognized by the FCI in 1978.

Description

The Anglo-Français de petite vénerie is a typical French hunting dog - it is a scent hound for hunting small game, which also has English blood. The height at the withers of this breed is 48-56 cm, plus minus 2 cm. The hair of the Anglo is short, straight and dense, which is typical for hounds. The back of this breed is firm and straight.

The dog's chest is deep, reaching at least to the elbow, and the belly is fairly "full" and slightly tucked up. Its head is well rounded. The ears are set narrowly below the line of the eyes, soft, slightly turned in, of moderate width and reach at least two fingers' breadth at the base of the nose. The eyes of the Anglos are quite deep, the snout is tapered. This breed of dog is bred in three colors. The most common are the tricolors, but there are also black-white and white-orange specimens.

beings

The Anglo-Français de petite vénerie is a reserved, willing to work dog that is easy to lead both as a hunting dog and as a companion dog.

Usage

This breed of dog was originally used for hunting hares, but today it is also used for hunting rabbits, deer and foxes. It is less common to find it when hunting wild boar. He hunts persistently and on tracks.
