The properties of a golf ball, such as texture and size, are defined in the golf rules.
The diameter is set to at least 42.67mm and the maximum permissible weight to 45.93g.
Hundreds of so-called dimples, small dents, adorn the surface and result in the well-known pattern.
The angle of the club head ensures that the ball is set in rotation during the tee shot, which ensures directional stabilization during flight.
Coupled with the unusual surface structure, the ball can now receive three times the lift or lateral deflection, depending on the direction of rotation.

In principle, a golf ball consists of a hard plastic shell that can have different cores.
These are usually made of hard rubber, but multi-layer cores made of liquid metal are also being used more and more frequently.
To distinguish between golf balls of the same brand and type, a number is printed on each one to avoid confusion.
At the first tee it is common practice to announce the type and number of the ball being used, and at a legal rally.
