Traumatology

Traumatology (Greek: trawmatolojía = wound knowledge) is the science of injuries and wounds as well as their development and therapy.

It can be found both as a branch of trauma surgery and orthopedics. Traumatology not only deals with the treatment of minor injuries but also with the treatment of so-called polytrauma (an injury in which at least two body regions (head, chest, abdomen or extremities) are affected, with one of these injured body regions being life-threatening in extent .
