Pneumology

Pneumology (Greek: pneumo=lung,breath,spirit, logos=teaching) or pneumonology or pulmonology or pulmonology is a branch of internal medicine. The German name is pulmonary medicine.

Pneumology includes the prophylaxis, detection and conservative treatment of diseases of the lungs, bronchi, mediastinum and pleura and the respiratory tract.

The pulmonologist can also act as an allergist and as a sleep doctor because these areas are very close together.

Pneumology is mostly treated conservatively, i.e. without surgery, e.g. with oxygen therapy, breathing training and many other applications.
