Cardiology
Cardiology is a branch of internal medicine. On the one hand, it deals with the structure and function of the heart and, on the other hand, with the identification of heart and circulatory diseases and their treatment.
In German-speaking countries, the designation "cardiologist" is a professionally protected designation that may only be used by doctors who have acquired and proven special knowledge in the field of cardiology as part of special further training.
In Germany and Switzerland there is a special pediatric cardiology for children as an independent part of paediatrics.
