Angiology

Angiology (Greek: angio= vessel and logos= teaching) is the study of the blood and lymphatic vessels. It is a branch of internal medicine that deals with vascular diseases.

Angiology deals with the origin, epidemiology, diagnosis, conservative and interventional therapy, rehabilitation and prevention of diseases of the arteries, veins and lymphatic vessels.

In the case of many angiological clinical pictures, there is close cooperation with other medical specialties.
Diseases of the coronary vessels are among the areas of responsibility of cardiologists, while neurologists and neurosurgeons are responsible for diseases of the central nervous system. Diseases of the venous vascular system such as varicose veins or postthrombotic syndrome and the lymphatic vessels overlap with dermatology and phlebology.
