Oceanology

Oceanology is known in German as oceanography. Oceanography includes the marine sciences in their entirety.

Physical oceanography is traditionally dealt with in oceanography.

Biological oceanography, also known as marine biology, deals with the special biological phenomena of the sea.

In the sense of an analogous formation to the term limnology for inland water science, the term "oceanology" was temporarily coined in German. However, this has not caught on among oceanographers.
