Ice avalanche

Ice avalanches are avalanches that consist of ice masses.
They only appear in higher mountains and are formed by ice breaks on glaciers, glacier remnants and icefalls. However, also due to the slipping of the glacier itself.
This is the case when a glacier is either over a slope or the sun is warming it up.
Ice avalanches behave like rockfalls and vary in size. The ice masses can carry with them tiny pieces, but also huge fragments.
Huge ice avalanches are also called ice falls as a special form of landslide due to their enormous damage potential.
It is very difficult to predict because a glacier moves day and night.
